Caramel Protein Cookies
These Caramel Protein Cookies are nutrient-dense yet sweet and easy to bake.
Who doesn’t love a good cookie?! These Caramel Protein Cookies are so easy to make and taste delicious but more importantly, are filled with whole food ingredients.
The addition of protein powder helps fill your child up, meets their energy demands and also increases their intake of vital nutrients for their growth and development. Protein powder should not replace food sources of protein, however, it’s a good way to add a little extra to your child’s diet, particularly if they are fussy, have a small appetite or are at a stage in their development that requires an increase in protein.
In these Caramel Protein Cookies, we’ve used FUNCH Caramel Kid-Pow Shake which is a pea and rice protein. It’s also free of artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners which is a plus!
When looking for a protein powder suitable for kids, I tend to opt for a plant-based or an organic whey. There are lots of brands on the market that contain fillers, artificial ingredients or are made with inferior protein sources. As with any supplement, it’s worth speaking with a health professional before you start using protein powder for your children.
To make these Caramel Protein Cookies, preheat the oven to 180C and line a tray with a silicone baking sheet or paper. Place the almond meal, protein powder, coconut sugar and baking soda into a bowl. Stir. Add the vanilla and milk of choice. Mix until just combined.
Roll about one tablespoon of the protein cookie mixture and lay on the tray. Gently flatten and press a fork on top.
Bake in the oven for approximately 12 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove and place on a wire rack to cool slightly. Enjoy warm.
Keep in the freezer perfect for lunches or afternoon snacks.
