Basic Meatball Recipe

Meatballs are very easy to make and usually kid approved, even those who turn their noses up at vegetables!

Meatballs are also budget-friendly and you can make a large batch to use later. I tend to make these basic meatballs to add to a tomato pasta sauce and serve them with "green spaghetti" (specialised zucchini). I also leave a few leftovers in the fridge that can be eaten as a snack or for lunch with a dip such as a tomato sauce or hummus.

This basic meatball recipe has been designed for a kid's palette, so if you're serving them to adults it's worth boosting up the spices. I love to add some chilli for a nice spicy hit.

Basic Meatball Recipe

muffins

Prep time: 20 mins

Cook time: 20 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1.5kg pork & veal mince
  • 1 brown onion, finely diced (I use a food processor)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 handful fresh parsly, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 egg
  • Sea salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 200⁰C. Line a tray with baking paper
  2. Place all the ingredients in a big bowl.
  3. With clean hands, mix all the ingredients together.
  4. Roll the mixture into balls approx. the size of golf balls.
  5. Place on a lined tray and cook in the oven for 20 minutes

If freezing: Cook the meatballs in the oven and allow to cook. Freeze on a tray before transferring them into a container. Freeze for up to 3 months.

If cooking in a pasta sauce: Place the raw meatballs in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to firm up. Place in your simmering sauce and cook for 10-15 minutes or until cooked through.
